Clement Isong

Mr. Clement Isong retired from the Total Group, as Deputy Vice President for Southern Africa, in June 2017 after 29 years of service, to join the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria, MEMAN, as Chief Operating Officer in October 2017. and becoming the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer in April 2018 and a member of the MEMAN Board of Trustees in November 2020.

Based in Johannesburg from 2013 — 2017, his last assignment in the Total Group as Deputy Vice President included the development of Total affiliates in the Southern Africa region where he also served as the interface between the Head Office Departments in Paris and Total downstream affiliates in Southern Africa, including Total South Africa, Total Mozambique, Total Malawi, Total Zimbabwe, Total Zambia etc.

Previously, between 2009 and 2013, as the Head of Sustainable Development for the Africa Middle East Division based in Paris, France, he oversaw the Total Group’s downstream sustainable development activities in Total affiliates in 54 countries.

Between 2006 and 2009, he was the Managing Director of Total Malawi where he oversaw the acquisition and integration of Total Malawi with Mobil Malawi. While in this job, he was elected the Chairman of Petroleum Importers Limited, a role which saw him collaborating with the Government of Malawi to review and restructure the petroleum products import system for the country. He had also served Total Nigeria in many other roles including General Manager Administration, General Manager Strategy, Regional Manager Mid-Western Region and Company Secretary/Legal Adviser.

As MEMAN ES/CEO he is charged with leading MEMAN’s efforts towards engaging with government and other key stakeholders to rebuild and institutionalize a sustainable energy downstream industry in Nigeria. He is personally motivated by the implementation of sustainable systems and business models for the development and growth of the downstream oil industry in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
