The energy sector is rapidly evolving with a focus on sustainability and innovation. In Nigeria, this creates opportunities for youth, yet their participation remains low; under 15% of the energy workforce is under 35, and only 26% of tertiary students are in STEM fields, despite the sector’s strong growth potential.
The Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN), through its Competency Centre, has initiated the Youth Enlightenment Programme to raise awareness, build capacity, and empower students with the knowledge and tools to thrive in the energy space.
The Programme
We are committed to nurturing a generation of young Nigerians who are well-informed, empowered, and actively engaged in shaping the future of the energy sector. Our goal is to increase awareness among youth about the pivotal role energy plays in national development, while inspiring them to explore careers, innovations, and entrepreneurial opportunities within the sector.
Through targeted engagement, mentorship, and skill-development initiatives, we aim to cultivate a deep passion for sustainability, technology, and energy entrepreneurship. By building capacity and fostering innovation, we seek to develop a strong pipeline of future energy leaders who will champion Nigeria’s transition to a cleaner, smarter, and more inclusive energy future.
MEMAN, in collaboration with the Nigeria Youth SDGs Network & Tweak Centric hosted a virtual Youth Career Readiness Webinar to equip young Nigerians with essential employability skills, practical job application tips, and insights for thriving in the evolving energy sector.
